As such, they reported that about 2,000 students applied for early decision 2 to fill those remaining 274 vacancies. Hence, this suggests an acceptance rate for early decision 2 applicants of around 13%.

Even though BU does not verify these figures, however, it is important to keep in mind how early decision 2 might not aid students in standing out from the competition to the same degree as early decision 1.

Boston University ED Deferral Rate

The deferral rate students can expect at Boston University should be around 42%.

How to Apply to Boston University for Early Decision

Hence, there are two ways to apply for early decisions at BU: Through the Common Application and through the Coalition Application.

Regarding the Common Application, while filling out the BU section of the application, there will be a question that requires students to answer whether or not they are interested in applying early decision.

Thus, that section of the Boston University application will explain the binding nature of the early decisions. Therefore, if one is accepted through early decision, one must attend BU if not, the offer of admission will be withdrawn completely.

At the end of this webpage, students will find an area where they themselves, their parent/guardian, and a school counselor will sign that they acknowledged the early decision’s binding nature.

With the three signatures on the early decision section of the Common Application, students will then submit their application before November 1st or January 4th for early decision 2 in order to be considered for early decision.

On the Coalition Application, you will find a section entitled “Term.” Within the Term section, look for the subsection entitled “Decision Plan.”

If you select the “Early Decision” within the decision plan section, it will cause the application to download the Early Decision agreement.

Just like the Common Application, this agreement must be signed by the applicant, a parent/guardian, and a school counselor.

This is when students will be able to re-upload the signed document into the Term section of the Coalition Application.
