Gmail Dark Mode is a newly added feature to Gmail. This helps reduce eye stress and control eye damage. Even though Google added a dark mode theme to Android 9, it did not function in every app. The update did not include Gmail among the apps.
How to enable Dark Mode on Android
There are two ways to activate dark theme mode on your Android. They include:
- For the entire phone, turn on the dark theme. As a result, some apps will also be activated. Gmail will also switch to dark mode.
- You can turn on the dark theme right in the Gmail app.

Activating the Dark Theme via Android Settings
You can activate dark mode on your Gmail app using the changes you make on your Android device.
But some devices will not affect the Gmail app when you put on the phone’s dark mode. In this case, use the second method to enable dark mode. Continue with the steps below:
- Go to the settings on your Android device.
- Click on “display.”
- Find and click on the Dark Theme option to turn it on.
- Later, apps that support dark themes will make the same changes.

Activate the Dark Mode Theme in Gmail
This step below can be used to turn on Gmail if the first method does not work.
- Open your Gmail app and look for the menu at the top left of your screen.
- Next, click on Settings.
- Locate and click on “General settings.” 1
- Proceed to “Theme.” Locate the Dark Mode option and click on it.
- While highlighting the items, the whole screen darkens.
